I picked the URL freshwaterfishingadvice.com years ago before I decided to expand with the help of saltwater guides and anglers into the saltwater fishing realm as well. Despite its name, this site features both freshwater and saltwater fishing information.
The site FreshwaterFishingAdvice.com was born in December 2018. The goal of my site is to educate and introduce beginners and intermediate-level anglers to various types of fishing and various species.
I especially want to help new anglers understand that the “barrier to entry” in catching big bass, carp, lake trout, pike, and trout is not as insurmountable as many will have you believe. Catching big fish comes down to location, understanding seasonal and daily behavior patterns, and applying the correct bait for the task.
I originally started it as a hobby project because I was finding myself watching more and more Youtube fishing videos and I wanted to better synthesize what I already knew and was learning into written format targeted at beginner and intermediate anglers.
For the record, I don’t love my site’s name. It sounds too generic and I wish I would’ve selected a more “brandable” title. Additionally, I want to add a lot more saltwater material which contradicts my site’s name.
I have written a majority of articles on the site but I do post the work of others, often better anglers than myself on topics I have more limited knowledge of. Every article published is on a topic I am either intimately familiar with or have researched extensively OR was written by someone else very knowledgeable on. What started out as a hobby I did after work has now developed into a passion project for me and has only furthered my enjoyment in fishing.
