  1. I have a bucket list item- catch a smallmouth bass in the 5 lb. range. We are going to Maine next fall last week in September and first week of October. Any ideas where I would have the best chance of living this dream?

  2. Hi Dale. Thanks for leaving a comment. Androscoggin River between Bethel & Rumford, Kennebec river near Skohegan/Madison, Sebago Lake, Moosehead Lake, Belgrade lakes, and Cobbosseecontee Lake can be great options and have the potential for 5+ pounders.

my recommendations: Moosehead Lake which is the largest lake and will offer the best chance of bigger smallies. Sebago Lake is another great option known for big smallies. The water is deep and clear so use a longer fluorocarbon leader. Braid mainline and 10-15 foot fluoro leader. Early fall 1st 3 weeks of September are the best time windows but that final week of Sept/1st of Oct can still be fantastic as bigger smallmouth are packing on weight before winter.
